one day in a happy life

I’m standing,

leaning on the sea wall,

on a cloudy day

by the harbour,

blowing kisses out to sea,

but they keep coming

back to me.

I’m walking,

round my town,

jeans, a fishing jumper

and old, green sneakers,

looking in windows,

looking for something

to catch my eye.

I’m sitting,

all alone

but not lonely,

tapping out the last

of a month’s worth of verse,

and wondering,

how many others

are doing just the same,

right now.
